About PECK of Taita
NOTES
* As this site grows, it is obvious that not all these people are on my direct line, but they are definitely all connected somewhere. An example: I do not know my son-in-laws ancestors but his children (my grandchildren), may one day want to know who they were and ancestors of those people will want to know etc etc. Therefore, Samuel Peck of Taita is now the central 'character' from which all branches have extended.

WELCOME to the tree of SAMUEL PECK (1850-1931) of Taita, Lower Hutt and the hundreds of extended branches connected to his family. This is not only a family tree but a help in your genealogy search of (and for) all things Kiwi. Unfortunately I can no longer supply my email address (nor reply to you unless known to me) . If you would like to further build this tree simply send your info through the 'click here' above. I am very grateful for all corrections & additions and will add or edit as soon as received

He married Mary McKenzie on 13 Dec 1842 at the Scotch Church in Wellington. In 1843-1844, after living at Evans Bay, which was known for a time as McMaster Bay, Angus took his family by foot over to the Wairarapa, cutting his way through the Rimutakas, an 11 day journey. They settled at Tuhitarata which is where Te Hiko Pīata Tama-i-hikoia, one of the leading Wairarapa chiefs (1840s-1880s) leased them some land. ... STEWART ISLAND (Rakiura)
Stewart Island, often NZ's forgotten Island, is roughly triangular and situated 30km south of the South Island, only 4,000km north of Antarctica. It was so named in honour of William Stewart, first mate on the sealer Pegasus, who charted, in 1809, what he named 'South Port', later renamed Port Pegasus after his ship. It is no longer a settlement. It has a total land area of 1,746 square kilometres. The permanent population is roughly 400, most of whom live in the settlement of Oban on the eastern side and depend on fishing and summer tourism, ferries connecting the settlement to Bluff. The island is exposed to persistent strong, westerly winds often reaching gale force, although, surprisingly, there are few temperature extremes. In Winter, it hovers around 10 °C and Summer stays around 16.5°C. However, the weather is unpredictable, changing instantly, bringing four seasons in one day. Regular heavy rains, (200-250 days a year, up to 3,000mm a year in the hills), create a foggy atmosphere, with lots of mud in the air, making waterproof clothing and boots compulsory for all visitors.

A Cemetery Search for the small number of people buried on Stewart Island can be done through this link. Or go to Find A Grave ..
* Halfmoon Bay cemetery
* Horseshoe Bay cemetery
* The Neck, five different burial areas on the small peninsular of the outer southern edge of Paterson Inlet. In times past people lived there in small wooden whares. Most burials are Maori or early foreign Whalers and Sealers who had married into local Maori families and lived on the Neck.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
